HUNTER and edogs launch cooperation for greater animal welfare and safety when buying a puppy

Dogs are a guaranteed click magnet on social media – the Samoyed Mayapolarbear alone has nearly three million followers on YouTube. Anyone considering adding a dog to their family will also quickly find what they are looking for online: With cute images and emotional texts, tens of thousands of puppies are offered for sale every month on the German market alone. Today, 60 percent of dogs are found online1.

But where do these animals really come from? In 2024, the origin of 84 percent of dogs living in Germany could not be clearly verified2, and on average, a case of illegal animal trade was uncovered in Germany roughly every third day over the past ten years, in which mother animals were abused as breeding machines under horrific conditions3. The problem for dog buyers: You can’t see that from the ads.

An offer that supports responsibility
To jointly strengthen reputable, animal-welfare-compliant dog trading, the long-established premium brand HUNTER has entered into a cooperation with the leading dog placement platform edogs. Since June 1, 2025, new listing guidelines have applied on edogs, placing stronger emphasis on animal protection. Puppies may now only be listed by VDH/FCI-recognized breeders, animal shelters and animal welfare organizations.

With immediate effect, edogs users who find their puppy via the platform receive a high-quality puppy box from HUNTER free of charge. This limited campaign combines premium products with a clear mission: to ensure a safe, conscious and positive start into life with a dog through carefully selected essentials, while better protecting both animals and people and denying dubious providers a platform.

Puppies under the Christmas tree?
“With this cooperation, we are jointly sending a strong signal for quality, responsibility and passion in dog ownership,” explains Diana Schuhmacher, Head of Marketing & E-Commerce at HUNTER. During the Christmas season, she emphasizes, the initiative is particularly important. “Especially now, it is crucial to act consciously. The legitimate desire for emotional moments must not lead to the careless online purchase of a puppy.” Anyone who wants to give a dog a home is making a decision for many years – one that requires responsibility, time and preparation. “Our products accompany dogs of all ages – making it all the more wonderful to now actively help shape the very beginning of a new family life.”
